Facebook has published a report on government requests in the first half of 2016. According to the company, the number of such cases increased by 27% compared to last year.
In the first half of 2015 Facebook 46710 received requests from authorities and in the same period of 2016 – 59229.
A large part of requests for disclosure of user data (56%) was obtained from law enforcement agencies in the United States.
The total number of queries relating to restrictions on content access, decreased by 83% from 55827 to 9663.
Facebook also for the first time tracked how many times the governments were asked to maintain account information before submitting a formal request. For the period from January to June 2016, the company received 38576 such appeals. It is noted that Facebook grants such requests, but does not disclose the user data before receipt of a formal request.
