Microsoft reported growth in quarterly profit to $5.2 billion

Microsoft has published results for the second quarter of 2017 financial year. In the reporting period, revenue increased by 1.2% in annual comparison to $24,09 billion, profit increased 3.6% to $5.2 billion.

December 8, 2016, Microsoft closed a deal to buy Tumblr. In the second quarter, the social network brought the company $228 million in revenue. LinkedIn's loss for the period amounted to $100 million.

In the Microsoft report financial results LinkedIn related to unit Productivity and Business. Total revenue for this segment was $7.4 billion, 10% more than the year before.

The revenue of Microsoft in the segment of Intelligent Cloud increased by 8% to $6.9 billion; in segment of Personal Computing – decreased by 5% to $11.8 billion

In the second quarter the company returned to shareholders $6.5 billion in shares and dividends.

Previously Microsoft announced its decision to buy the social network LinkedIn in June 2016. The transaction value amounted to $26.2 billion.

Since June, the company worked on the integration plan. In the words of the head of Microsoft Satya Nadella, a key priority for the Corporation is to increase the growth of LinkedIn.
