Google announced the acquisition of a startup called Kaggle
Google buys an online platform for researchers in the field of data analysis and machine learning Kaggle. The company announced about it on the Next Cloud conference, which took place in San Francisco. The terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
According to TechCrunch, the purchase Kaggle will allow Google to gain access to the large and active AI community. As a result, the company will be able to bring to its projects the best specialists in this field.
The company Kaggle was founded in 2010 by Anthony Goldbloom and Ben Hammer. To date, Kaggle is the main platform for competition in the field of Data Science. The community was more than 500 thousand specialists.
According to data from Crunchbase, for the seven years of its existence the platform attracted $12.5 million in funding from funds Index Ventures and SV Angel, as well as from private investors — co-owner Mail.Ru Group Yuri Milner, founder of PayPal Max Levchin and others.
In February, Google and Kaggle launched a competition dedicated to the development of algorithms for auto tagging YouTube videos with a total prize fund — $100 thousand.
